Gelonghui, April 2nd | The Brussels Court of First Instance ruled in favor of Pfizer in a lawsuit related to its COVID-19 vaccine. Poland was ordered to pay approximately 1.3 billion euros, while Romania must pay around 600 million euros. This decision relates to the contract signed between the European Commission and Pfizer in 2021, which stipulated that EU member states could receive a specified quantity of vaccines. However, as the pandemic threat diminished and vaccination rates declined, both Poland and Romania refused to accept the full contracted doses of vaccines and failed to pay the agreed price to Pfizer. Subsequently, Pfizer filed lawsuits against the two countries in 2023.
