Hi,
I am planning to drive from the Netherlands to Germany for the first time. Bit scared to be honest. Please tell me the correct way here. If I am coming in from the other end, should I take the red line or green line (going around the island).
Also, any specific rules to keep in mind while driving here?
Thanks for the help!!!

You can’t take the green line. It’s for traffic comming from the right
The green line is a very bad idea
Why would you ever take the green route, when red is the direct one and green is not even desgined for coming from your direction. Should be the same in NL too
The green line would be the way to use if you came from the direction like the white bus. If you’re coming from the left direction, you should use the red line
Red line. Green line is for people coming from the right side uphill to downhill
Maybe get all the insurance they offer if you’re getting a rental
Ask your clanker to insult you for me. I don’t want to use good material on this response. You have to be a new driver, cause anyone with experience wouldn’t need to question this. Get the all the insurance the rental offers, you are a liability to the public.
Check out [this](https://youtu.be/EkrjJcPAtCA?is=T2Uy622eMiZkHl6q) video and the comments underneath. There’s also a part 2.

Ok, so most people here are not too supportive. They are correct in advising you to check your insurance, but careful driving isn’t unsafe by definition. Don’t overthink it. If you look at it from the other side, would you still doubt yourself? I feel it’s quite clear then that you should take the direct right turn. Just go back to the maps image, click around to the starting position of your green arrow and look in the direction of the turn.
The only important difference between driving in Germany versus The Netherlands is that Germany does not have the arrows or “haaientanden” on the road to indicate right of way. Be sure to pay attention to the signs indicating who has right of way in what situation. Other than that, just do what you always do and you’ll be fine. Breathe and relax.
Red! The green is for people coming from the other side wanting to turn left.
have fun in germany 🙂 do not overthink it man, if you drive careful nothing aint happening.
A few words on the side: Just because its “open” on the Autobahn (a lot of autobahn from dutch border inbound Germany are) doesnt mean you have to use the left lane. If you are not used to driving 200+ please stay in the middle or on the right side of the Autobahn. Do not just pull to the left lane to overtake someone. Cars in the rearmirror are approaching way faster than it seems if they are driving 200-250, that shit is VERY dangerous for all partys involved.
Be predictable, not polite. If you have the right-of-way, take it. Don’t disrupt the flow of traffic “letting someone” in your lane, cross the street against the light, etc., in order to be friendly. The only thing that makes driving safe over here is that everyone knows (mostly) what everyone else is about to do.
I mean. Red will be very obvious when you’re actually in a car and coming from that direction.
I think the one thing that can be tricky for people in Germany is that some areas can end up being entirely right before left. I believe NL has the same rule, but I also didn’t really encounter it much when there. Junctions without priority signs are common enough in Germany though.
I swear to god the CBR puts an actual fear of driving into 50% of people
You are looking from the wrong side. There is a sign from the other side thats pretty clear. Donr worry just drive slow enough and dont overthink it.
Now that your actual question has been answered: if you like mustard, you should really go to that mustard mill. Fun to see the process, but their mustard is absolutely delicious!
I‘m not even German but man this is universal and should not even be a question.
What? Haha I literally have never seen someone wondering about different traffic rules across neighboring European countries 😂 You are acting as if you will be driving on another continent in left lane traffic.
The signs before the isle will explain which path to take. It’s the red one. Take Google street view and move it before the isle. If you don’t know the sign, then I don’t know how you got your driving license in the Netherlands. Also, at this specific turn the correct way to go should have been obvious even without signs.
Edit: Sorry for sounding harsh but don’t overthink too much. You passed your driving license tests, you have the skills, you would be good driving your car across the entire continent if you felt like it.
You have to take the red line. The green one is wrong. It is supposed to be for vehicles coming from the right in this picture. Immagine the white van wanted to go your direction – he would’ve to take the green one.
And I thought it is just cliche about the dutch and driving.
Je moet het niet te ingewikkeld maken, hoor. Gewoon rustig rijden en het komt goed. Oh, en kijk potverdorie achteruit als je op de snelweg bent voordat je naar de linke rijstrook gaat. 😛
If you want to drive on the motorway, then for heaven’s sake, drive at least 130 km/h (unless otherwise indicated)!
Don’t overthink it!
You have to Google “Rechtsfahrgebot” 😅
RED
Green is for the other direction lmao
