The Swiss men’s team finished the preliminary round of the World Championships in Ogden (USA) with a 9:5 win against the USA. They will now face the Americans again in the quarter-finals.
Skip Marco Hösli and his teammates Justin Hausheer, Simon Gloor and Philipp Hösli from CC Glarus forced the decision in the duel against the Americans in the ninth end. With a perfect last checker, Philipp Hösli knocked an opponent’s checker out of the house, thus securing Switzerland a decisive four-man house. Skip John Schuster’s US team then conceded the game early.
Both teams had already secured their play-off qualification on Wednesday evening. The next clash in the quarter-finals is scheduled for Friday at 17:00 (Swiss time).
The way forward in the tournament is also already mapped out: The winner of this quarter-final will face the Swedish team led by Niklas Edin, which finished the round robin in first place, in the semi-final. The Swiss team should go into any duel with plenty of confidence after beating the Scandinavians 8:5 in the preliminary round on Tuesday.
