The biggest challenge for Progressive Bulgaria is overcoming fear, because in regions with diverse ethnic or political communities people are intimidated and hesitate to express their political affiliation or preference for fear of losing their jobs, Progressive Bulgaria leader Rumen Radev said during a campaign meeting with supporters in Stara Zagora on Saturday.
“We cannot build a free, independent, European, democratic state if the citizens of this country are paralyzed by fear,” he said, stressing that these elections are crucial for the nation. “We cannot allow small and medium-sized businesses, which provide for themselves and their families, to be subjected to administrative pressure with numerous regulations and requirements, while large companies do not pay the taxes they are supposed to,” Radev added.
He emphasized that coal-based energy is of exceptional importance not only for the Stara Zagora region but for Bulgaria as a whole and forms part of national security. “It is the only sector where we should not import anything, because the coal, capacities, workforce, and technologies are ours,” Radev said.
At the meeting, Alexander Pulev, the coalition’s top-of-the-list candidate in Stara Zagora, said that the city should become Bulgaria’s true industrial centre. “It is time to revive Stara Zagora’s traditions in high technology and electronics, to restore the city’s space achievements, and to open a new golden page in its history,” Pulev added.
