  1. Tech companies treating humans like disposable apps delete, update profits, repeat.

Who do they think is going to buy their shit if people don’t have money?

  3. For the longest time, I regretted going into healthcare instead of tech. Given the layoffs in recent years, I am glad I chose to work in a lab. AI has gutted that workforce.

This is for my kids. Is computer science still a good career? Is this just temporary staff adjustment in the tech world?

  5. Seriously, cutting off jobs even after 95% profit is concerning, job stability in tech feels more fragile than ever what about people whos life depends on this job or people who really needed the job…

  6. I thought the message was that AI wasn’t making money but now you say they had a $95B profit surge. Which is it?

  7. Welcome to trump/republican economics 101.

Taxcuts for the wealthiest owners and companies, serfdom for the rest.

  8. I’ll be honest this shit scares me. I’m in a field that is starting to utilize AI and I can see things going bad for employees if it works as advertised. And I have no clue if I should try to make a career shift now to another company or if I think my current employer will keep me around because I’ve proven myself. At this point I feel like I just have to ride it out and see what happens. And then pick a new job that has some elements of manual labor that AI can’t handle I guess?
I just have no confidence that other companies aren’t going to do the same thing oracle did

Larry Ellison is a man who flies his plane low over his neighbors after hours just because he can afford to pay the fines. He’s a modern age billionaire who doesn’t give any fucks about the people around him or those who made him rich. Exactly the kind of person who stands between the American Dream and the American people.

Hey guys, when are we (“we” as in “actual people”, not the corrupt political class) going to do something about these companies and ultra-wealthy CEOs removing us from the economy and replacing us with slave labor via the H1B system? Is it going to be before or after we’re all permanently relegated to poverty-stricken underclass? Just wondering.

Oracle also asked for a shitload of H1-B Visas while pulling this shit.

Somebody needs a window to fall out of.

Best revenge? Starting a better competitor and running them out of business.

  13. According to another news article, Oracle fired 30,000 employees, and filed for thousands of H1B visas on the same day (which I believe will all be approved seeing as how Ellison greased the palms of the regime multiple times). MAGAs keep espousing their “replacement theory”, but this is the real replacement: well paid US employees will be replaced with cheaper employees, who will be totally dependent on their employer because of the visa.

If this works, expect other tech giants to follow suit.

  14. Tax them higher for every worker they fire when profitable. People like “wow this is concerning”. No, this is entirely fucked. Wake the fuck up.

C suite freaks pulling out the copper wire of this country for the next quarterly report. These people need to be held accountable for this shit.

These large tech companies are just overstaffed. Oracle still employs over a 130,000 people. What are these people even working on? Oracle doesn’t have that many products.

The companies that profit off AI should be a tax that goes to retraining and supporting employees who were let go because of it.

Don’t forget they applied for 3000 foreign visa also to bring in cheaper labor

    1. Oracle invests in AI
    2. No profit is realized in AI, yet
    3. Shareholders put pressure on board
    4. Board asks Ellison to do something
    5. He moves jobs offshore to show better margins

    Now look at automobile industry:
    1. 2007 shows the world how fragile economies are
    2. GM gets bailed out in 2008, over 1million jobs were at stake
    3. 670,000 retirees were at risk of pension payment
    4. People don’t end up at food banks

Not the best comparison, but job retention and continued employment has not become a major issue for tech yet. It surely will, when businesses won’t have any other options to show better top lines so they will focus on bottom line, as what Oracle is doing.

Government will hopefully wake up when tech workers get closer to ending up at food banks and homeless shelters.

  20. We’re getting so close guys. Just a few more years of misery then we can drag these fucks out of their penthouses and into the streets to meet Mr. Guillotine.

  21. Man if Larry Ellison isn’t the fucking poster-child for a world class sack of shit

  22. Don’t forget that historically when shit hits the fan, the rich taste better! Don’t bother eating poor folk…
