I did have to laugh at all the people that demanded their type of ebike should be allowed but we should ban other peoples. Its really a massive self own.
Government should have nothing to do with ebikes as a whole. No licences, no rules. Its been great to see areas now open and accessible to all regardless of how much they worship daddy government.
You did it to yourself supporting the ban.

I don’t understand how after a 10 month review they can’t come up with an approach that increases everyones safety and doesn’t take a massive shit on a valuable addition to private transport.

Well this whole licence thing is going to effect a lot of people who have disabilities who aren’t medically fit to drive either as well as older people who can no longer drive.

I’ll start by saying these new laws are over the top, and I think as a whole car travel is far more dangerous. But you should acknowledge that there are important differences between e-bikes and push bikes that mean they need to be regulated differently. Push bikes are more self-regulating for speed and weight. For a heavier bike, cargo, or rider going the same speed means longer stopping distances, slower manoeuvrability, and more harm done in a collision. That bike you showed at 9 minutes is a good example. You need to be well trained to go that fast on a push bike while being heavy. Also most people on push bikes simply chose not to speed, as riding faster requires exponentially more effort, especially on a footpath where you lose a lot of efficiency compared to a road. Speeding was a much rarer issue before e-bikes, and when it did happen it wasn’t as severe.
Also while requiring people to be 16 or over is extreme, licences and registration do have a signifiant upside and may be reasonable if done right. I would expect people with e-bikes to know the rules and basic safe riding practices, which a license can test for. Registration means a license plate can be required, which allows you to identify riders in accidents where they would otherwise ride off, and it means having CTP insurance which can compensate the injured people. As long as we make them cheaper and easier to get than regular licenses, and make them available to young people then it won’t hurt e-bike accessibility.

I would just want electric motorbikes to be cracked down upon by kids riding them everywhere. There’s nothing wrong with e bikes

It’s excellent legislation that solves a problem created by kids who behave like dickheads.
Sorry if you bought an e-bike and are impacted but you only have yourselves to blame

I am surprised they didn’t include the old “registration for bicycles” that gets trotted out every few years.

The Queensland government are full of knee jerk cookers, the current premier will have a worse legacy than Campbell Newman, and i didn’t think that was possible.

So you can ride a watered down pedal-assist bicycle… but it requires a few thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours doing learners and driving tests for a car. Makes sense.
We just got back from Tokyo and saw the whole city on e-bikes. It’s easily the best way to explore a place. Imagine the tourists who come here from major cities where they don’t even own cars. They’re in for a shock when they get booked for not having a car licence and an international permit.
Brisbane looking like a global city more each day. What an absolute joke.

This liberal government uses children as scape goats to score political points, it won them the election, it’ll keep them going.
