I have advocated for sovereign Australian defence and space capabilities for a while. I believe that Australia should try and at least develop an independent space launch capability (currently we are indeed solely reliant on the US for space launch, Gilmour Space has made some pretty good progress but they still haven’t gotten anything to orbit yet).
As for other areas in Defence, we do have good deals with other partners such as Europe (see German Boxer Armoured vehicle manufacturing), South Korea (Redback) and Japan (Mogami purchase) and are developing some pretty strong UAV capabilities but I notice space is a weak area in terms of sovereignty.
