Langford asks community to have say on waste collection, arts, climate change

Arts, trash and climate change are front of mind for Langford.
To help shape its Climate Action Plan, the Arts and Cultural Development Strategy, and explore the future of waste collection in Langford, the city is inviting residents to have their say.
“Receiving feedback from residents is key to building a Langford that reflects our community’s values and priorities,” said Mayor Scott Goodmanson in a news release.
“I encourage everyone to fill out the three surveys and share what matters most to you and your experience living in Langford.”
Created over the past year, the city’s first formal Arts and Cultural Development Strategy is now ready for review.
The strategy is intended to help Langford grow an equitable, vibrant arts and culture scene – one that reflects and celebrates the city’s diverse community.
It will also support Langford’s economy and will guide how the city supports artists, hosts events, and creates spaces that bring people together through creativity.
The arts and culture survey closes at the end of day, April 19: LetsChatLangford.ca/Arts.
The Climate Action Plan aims to prepare the community for the impacts of climate change and reduce local greenhouse gas emissions.
It will outline a practical, flexible path toward making Langford’s community and local economy more resilient to the effects of climate change today and for generations to come, explains the city.
Community members are asked to provide feedback about their experiences, priorities, and expectations for the city’s role in climate action. The survey closes at the end of day, April 8: LetsChatLangford.ca/ClimateAction.
As part of Langford’s exploration of a possible city-contracted service provider for curbside garbage and organics collection for single-family homes, duplexes, and small stratas, residents are being asked to give feedback on the proposal.
The city says its own contracted service provider could improve affordability, ensure every home has proper waste pickup, help stop the misuse of public garbage cans, and reduce traffic, noise, and environmental impacts.
“We are seeking your feedback on your current waste collection service, your priorities related to cost and level of service, and your perspectives on a potential city‑contracted program,” the city said.
“Your input, combined with technical research and comparisons with other communities, will help inform council’s future decisions.”
