Energy Minister Chris Bowen says fuel shipments to Australia are now secured "well into" May, as the war in the Middle East continues with no end in sight.
The number of service stations out of diesel and petrol fell over the Easter weekend, which Mr Bowen said was encouraging.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has warned Australians that the coming months "may not be easy", as the global oil crisis continues to drive up fuel demand and prices domestically.

Well we’ll see how many of those shipments actually get carried through. Most countries are operating on ‘just have to hold out a little longer, the US will totally win this soon, *right*?’ I’m… not convinced on that front. The sheer amount of clownery and failures on the US side of logistics, and the way they keep changing messaging/war goals says otherwise imo. And if/when that becomes clear, countries may end up reneging on deals for national interest.
somehow i suspect the Iran War will not be over by May…
So, depending on the definition of “well into,” anywhere from 3 to 5 weeks of fuel?
Previously I saw we would hit fuel issues mid to late April, as the last tankers already on their way would arrive, and then those no longer coming would be noticed. This appears to have pushed that issue into May, so we have sourced fuel to replace those tankers that are no longer coming or are delayed.
So far, so good then. For us anyway. Sucks for those whom we could out bid though.
We had the issue of supply being threatened, people panic bought the supply we had already/still coming in, and the issue of actual less fuel coming in, was a month away, and now another month away as we have sourced it from elsewhere.
Yeah the price ain’t coming down below $3 cheif…unless you put a cap on 2.50 but you won’t because youll take the practically legal bribe from fuel conglomerates…
So prices will drop because there’s no shortage right ?
He’s being misleading. Shipments being secured into May doesn’t mean they will actually arrive, and many are being diverted. That said, May is better than the April 20th date I’ve seen thrown around.
Would be great if this country would think at least 2 weeks ahead at any time, and learn how to use the natural resources on the land without privatising everything. The whole country for the past 30 years has been run by incompetent humans, and propped up by luck and chance of what we have here. It’s coming to an end.
And then what?

Just fuckin tired of idiots claiming the government isn’t doing enough when it’s literally doing everything it diplomatically and logistically can to ensure as much supply as fuckin possible.
Australia didn’t cause it. Albo didn’t cause this.
Some people need to grow the fuck up. The world is complicated. Get used to it.
Soo…how are the fertilizer stocks looking?
If you didn’t hoard fuel when it was half the price it is now you pay double
I’m not so sure the fuel hoarders are dumb
Im happy with my 380 litre diesel tank savings
What I am getting sick of is all the comments from other people when I go to fill up. It is a 40km round trip from where I live to the petrol station I buy my fuel at. Why do I drive 40kms you ask? Because I live in a rural area and it is the only petrol station that accepts the fuel discount I have. Yes there are other petrol stations closer, but the discount I have is only at this one place and even with the 40km round trip still works out cheaper. It costs me a bit over $6 to make that trip to get fuel at the current price. I go once a week and I take my 2 jerry cans with me. I have been doing this for over 2 years now. It was never a problem before, but now it is apparently. This gives me enough fuel for 1 week. I drive up to 200km a day for my job. So by taking the 2 cans with me, I save myself a trip and $6 a week. It may not seem much, but $6 a week adds up. $312 over a year. Again it doesn’t seem much. But when everything is getting more and more expensive, it all adds up. So, no, I am not hoarding fuel or taking it from people who need it. I am just trying to save myself that little amount each week that I can use it to you know eat, or keep the lights on or something.
To be honest I was sceptical when Albanese says BAU no need to worry just use your current levels of fuel.
But he has proven everyone wrong. We’ve got heaps of supplies. In fact we’ve got way more tha usual, feel free to do as you wish with the fuel you’ve bought, if you can afford it you can even go to the racetrack lol.
Every month it says fuel extended to next month. She’ll be right no need to panick.
I really don’t know what people were worried about. We were never going to run out in the long term.
Bowen and Albo were competent people you’d want in charge, so far so good, more pain to come sadly. Just hoping they keep a lid on inflation.
Cool. But, my local servo dropped the excise price the other day. Went by today and it was increased another 10 cents.
After covid, doing everything to make sure Australia can be more sustainable on its own, i thought would have been a massive priority for the government.
Something awful has occurred to me.
The total supply of oil in the world has decreased by approximately 20%. There’s 20% less oil out there to buy. We’re still getting our supply. Therefore, someone else must be missing out. We outbid some other country, which is going without, so that we can keep our SUVs on the road to pick up the kids from school.
really is a great testament to how competent this government is, securing such strong supply in absurd circumstances
Benjamin Netanyahu is the worst US president ever 😉 lol
