Accepting all criticism of Corbyn’s Labour and even using them to attack the Tories is certainly a gamble for Starmer. Maybe his advisors found it to be effective in countering fears of him being ‘continuity Corbyn’ or a dangerous Communist.

This should be an exciting time for me as we’re about to finally see the government change. Yet Starmer has an incredible knack to sap any excitement I might have every time he opens his mouth.

So he’s admitting that he’s a disingenuous, slimy, lying fucking cunt then? Never let it be said that Keir Starmer lacks self-awareness.

Not like intentionally losing the 2019 had any negative effects on the United Kingdom. Hmm? Britain had among the worst COVID per capita death tolls in Europe?
Small price to pay for Starmer’s career. Stop criticising, lefty!

God, he’s such a PRICK. Please, starmer, just shut the fuck up. I’m a lifelong labour voter in a seat that’s contested by them and reform and the sheer struggle to vote for labour is increasingly bad. If he keeps attacking Corbyn and by extension the left of his own party, over this absolute basket case of a government, I’m going to spoil my ballot.

I backed Corbyn during the 2017 and 2019 elections, too.
Like Starmer, I didn’t think he’d make a good PM. I just thought he’d make a better PM than May or Johnson.
Nothing that’s happened since has made me think I was wrong.

What exactly is wrong with just simply saying “Yeah Labour tried something, it didn’t work, I’ve tried to correct our faults and I’m now going to try something that I hope does.” Why does he need to keep pretending he really hates Corbyn, yet happily held the job? It just comes off as blatant greasy lies, and that’s the kind of politics people are sick of.

Why anyone thinks he will be better than the Tories is beyond me. He is desperate not to say anything that a Daily Mail reader wouldn’t like.

As much as I don’t mind an opportunity to shit on 2019 Labour’s insistence on a self-fulfilling prophecy of electoral failure, the Independent has changed what Kier Starmer actually said.
Headline reads:
>Starmer says he only backed Corbyn because he was certain **he** would lose the election
But Starmer’s actual words:
>Asked whether he had meant it when he said his predecessor would make a great prime minister, Sir Keir replied: “I was certain **we** would lose the 2019 election. We were not ready. I was certain we would lose it.”
I think he dodged the original question, as he has seemingly dodged anything Corbyn throughout his time as leader, but there is big difference between “he” and “we”. And the article’s headline is going to a length to marry soundbites together to make out Starmer somehow firebombed his own party, *and is admitting to it.* And as much as I dislike him I don’t believe either to be in reality at all.
I’m sure a lot of people will just read the headline, have their biases confirmed, and that’ll be good enough. But it is a dishonest headline.

Starmer was one of the few Labour MPs who backed Corbyn to the hilt on absolutely everything.
Even McDonnell was far more pro Remain than Corbyn (rebelled on Article 50), but Starmer was touting a “jobs first Brexit” along with Jeremy, as his loyal Brexit Secretary.
An absolute worm of a man.

I mean, would he have made a “Great” Prime minister? Always voted Labour but his comments regarding Ukraine invasion and the vaccine have made me question it.
People don’t seem to realise that by backing Corbyn as a potential “Great Prime Minister”, Starmer inherits these takes and will then have to defend them.

I hate Kier Starmer because he’s leader of the Labour Party. I hate the Labour Party because they’ll probably win the elections. I hate the idea the Labour win the elections because of their policies. I hate the Labour Party policies.

This is a deeply misleading headline. When asked whether he meant it when he said Corbyn would be a good Prime Minister he just says “I was certain we would lose that election”. That’s not an answer to the question. That could mean he knew Labour were going to lose several months before the election, which is true because we all knew that. The headline saying “ONLY backed BECAUSE he was certain” is feeding divisive conspiracy theories about Corbyn’s time as leader.

Yet another reminder to the electorate that Starmer is just not a nice person, more so because this article makes him sounds like a right barsteward. This serves no purpose right now other than to offend.

I never get this kind of question. When you aren’t the leader you back and champion the policies of the leader. Even if you may do something different yourself.

Judging by how many labour members I couldn’t get out to post leaflets, I think that was widely held too. Just wish they had let me know, as I did try to drum up support in wet and cold November for someone the public didn’t want…
And before the usual cult of personality vote me down…didn’t see many of them out either. Good at chanting (usually against certain groups too) but not very good when it comes to action…
