Transport Minister Atis Švinka (Progressives) has proposed a 50% reduction in the price of monthly train passes for a period of three months, according to the “Progressives” party.

The party noted that this proposal aims to mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices on residents’ incomes and encourage people to choose trains more often as their daily mode of transportation.

“The state must help residents mitigate the consequences of the fuel price spike caused by the conflict in the Middle East. By replacing private cars with trains whenever possible, Latvian residents could save approximately 12 million euros over three months,” said Švinka.

The proposal will be submitted for consideration at the upcoming meeting of the coalition parties and the subsequent Cabinet of Ministers session.
