Former Kosovo Foreign Minister and advisor to the President of Kosovo, Meliza Haradinaj, has publicly reacted to a wave of harsh reactions on social media, following a statement she made in support of Albanian students in North Macedonia. She emphasizes that the reactions have crossed the boundaries of normal debate, turning into broader attacks on Albanians and Kosovo, reports Gazeta Express.

According to her, this situation highlights a disturbing reality: Albanophobia is not limited to one country, but remains present and active even in countries with good neighborly relations.

Haradinaj calls for reflection and emphasizes the need for unity and joint support for Albanians outside Kosovo and Albania, describing this as a national obligation and the only way forward.

“For a long time I believed that the open and organized rhetoric against Albanians was mainly connected to Serbia. This has been the perception with which many of us have grown up. Yesterday on Twitter I did something simple: I stood in solidarity and defended the Albanian students in North Macedonia who are demanding their earned rights and equal treatment. The reaction was immediate and much harsher than a normal debate. It quickly shifted from the issue of the students to broader attacks on Albanians and Kosovo. The surprise does not lie in the existence of hatred, but in the fact that Albanophobia is not limited to Serbia. It is present and loud in North Macedonia, even today after 27 years of good neighborly relations! And this is a moment of reflection: that the strengthening of the Albanian factor in the Balkans is not built with illusions, but with clarity and unity. Albanians outside Kosovo and Albania are not alone. But they must be supported with a common stance, with national care, and with a unified voice. This is the way “Alone ahead, and a shared obligation,” wrote Meliza Haradinaj./GazetaExpress/B.Leka/
