“The cantonal government was responding to a written question from Liberal Green parliamentarian Thomas Brönnimann, who wondered whether it would not be more appropriate to depict the bear without its masculine attributes, so that the population as a whole would feel better represented.”

I am SO glad they decided to just leave it, it would be so devastating for Bern if their bear lost his penis! And I’m sure this was a very important topic for the government. /j

Kanton Bern gets smaller and smaller. Now they wanted it to lose its penis. Gladly this did not work out!

  3. I was literally talking about this today! I was visiting the castle in Grandson and my Swiss friend was pointing out that the medieval flag was a female bear with no visible anatomy. He said they voted to add a penis in the 70s!!

I will just say that the first thing I noticed as an American looking at the cantonal flags is how ridiculous it is to have added penises to any of the bears/goats/sheep/lions etc…

It looks like a highlight on the inside thigh, not a penis.

They should have a petition to enlarge it and make it less spiky.

  5. I am SO happy I’m paying taxes used to pay a bored politician who think a bear’s dick on a coat of arms is even worth talking about.

Or is the next step a referendum to vote on whether the bear is male, female or identifies as a dandelion?

Why did I think this was a wolverine for 20 years? Was my teacher fucking with me?

I literally remember him being like “you’d think it’s a bear because of Bern, but in fact it’s designed to be a wolverine”
