The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Republic of Türkiye held the latest round of political consultations at the level of Deputy Ministers on 31 March 2026, in Ankara. The Georgian delegation was led by Lasha Darsalia, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, while the Turkish delegation was headed by Berris Ekinci, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the strong strategic partnership and close bilateral cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Türkiye.
Emphasis was placed on the intensive exchanges of both high-level and sectoral agency visits.
A detailed discussion was held on current issues on the bilateral cooperation agenda. Particular attention was also devoted to ongoing developments in the region.
The meeting addressed the situation in the occupied territories of Georgia. The Turkish side reaffirmed its firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Prospects for deepening trade and economic cooperation were discussed. Emphasis was placed on the importance of partnership between the two countries in the fields of transport, energy and customs.
Attention was drawn to regional cooperation formats and the significance of implementing joint strategic projects. In the context of the current geopolitical situation, the necessity of promoting connectivity and the Middle Corridor was underscored.
The effectiveness of cooperation between Georgia and Türkiye within international organizations was also highlighted.
Both sides once again confirmed their readiness to pursue active cooperation and deepen their strategic partnership.
As part of the visit, a meeting was also held with Akif Çağatay Kılıç, the Chief Adviser on National Security and Foreign Policy to the President of Türkiye.
