Where are all the frogs in Latvia this season?
– This is the spring migration of amphibians. It occurs every year, starting around the end of March – beginning of April. Frogs migrate to water bodies for breeding: they lay eggs in the water, from which tadpoles emerge,” said ecologist Viktoria Puke in response to a journalist’s inquiry.
– After laying their eggs, frogs leave the water bodies and disperse on land, returning to their usual habitats.
There are three species of frogs in our region: the gray or common frog (the most widespread), the green frog, and the reed frog (which is quite rare).
