Suggestion to read the book Kosovo by historian Noel Malcolm

I just finished reading the historian Noel Malcolm’s book – Kosovo: a short history, and I think it is a very necessary reading for each of us in order to understand the history of our country from an external perspective.

Now, this book is about 400 pages of text, and it does not cover and include all the details that we have been taught, but what is better (in my opinion) is a scientific attempt to create a historical flow of Kosovo. Throughout the book, he takes the perspectives of all the forces that have passed through and influenced Kosovo (Byzantium, Albania, the Ottoman Empire, Serbia, Bulgaria, Austria, Italy, Germany, Russia, etc.).

He finished writing the book in 1998, so the book is completed without the history of our war, and in some cases, it can be seen that the writer does not have all the answers. Well, after all, it elaborates quite well the position of Kosovo and the Kosovars that led to the war.

In the book, the writer starts from the origin of Albanians and Serbs, the Middle Ages in Kosovo, the battle of Kosovo, the Serbian Middle Ages in Kosovo, Kosovo under the Ottoman occupation, the wars during the Ottoman occupation (the annexation of Kosovo by Austria), the minorities of Kosovo, the League of Prizren, the Serbian occupation of Kosovo 1908-1918, Kosovo in the second world war, Kosovo under Tito, and Kosovo after the death of Tito until the year 1997.

I think that in the coming years it is more important to learn the history of Kosovo in a comprehensive way, and to have an educational, cultural and social development from the individual aspect as well as in society, in order to develop the life in our nation. Reading is a very good way without other objectives, so I am suggesting this book as such. All the best!
