Well you get about 3 years for killing someone with your car, so a year for *nearly* killing someone with your foot seems about right?

    Orrrr, they’re both awful sentences

  2. It’s within the sentencing guidelines for assault occasioning bodily harm. Justice has been served according to those guidelines.

Nah he got two years it’s just he has already served a fair bit of time before the sentencing.

Personally I think a 21 year old getting in a fight with two lads who were up for it and then sticking the boot in is appropriately punished by two years in prison especially since he pleaded guilty.

You can watch the video, the victim was up for the fight and the guy getting the sentence actually tries to break it up at first. Truth is off duty cop or not this was a fight, the only reason I see to be fussed is the stomp at the end hence the IMO appropriate sentence.

No actual jail time, a relatively small fine and he’s home clear? No. Not really. Because now he’s got a criminal record that will follow him like a dark cloud for the rest of his life and severely limit his quality of work and of life. A fitting and central part of the punishment which the court judged he deserved.
