Rochester, N.Y. — The 6th Annual Finger Lakes Deaf Health Fair was held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Monroe Community Hospital.
The event offered a culturally and linguistically accessible environment for Deaf Rochesterians whose primary language is American Sign Language (ASL).
The fair aimed to provide a fully accessible space where Deaf individuals could connect with local healthcare and advocacy organizations, foster trust, and increase engagement in essential health programs.
“The reason for the Deaf Health Fair is really to encourage healthy awareness for the deaf community,” signed John Reed, a board member for the Partners in Deaf Health. “We need to remember that there’s a huge health disparity between hearing individuals and deaf individuals in having access to information. So this is able to show everyone the options that are out there and for deaf individuals to get the information they need to be able to raise their awareness and alleviate that disparity.”
