As a point of comparison, Usain Bolt’s best time as junior athlete was 19.93

Aidan Murphy came second with an amazing 19.88 – this would have smashed the previous Australian record too.

    Amazing race and amazing times.

That kid is so fast, he could turn off the bedroom light and be in bed before the room went dark. Wow. 😂

Were coming for you, Usain! Let’s goooooo

World record at home in 2032 boiiii

7 out of the 8 runners ran a PB in the final, which is extremely rare for a sprint.

    >Gout’s performance was also the first time an Australian had run under 20s, but incredibly, he wasn’t alone with South Australian sprinter Aidan Murphy also going under the magical time in second. **Murphy ran 19.88s** after pushing Gout all the way.

Huge win for Gout obviously, but damn our sprinters are becoming cracked lately. Peter Norman’s national 200m record of 20.06 stood for 56 years until Gout broke it last year. And now as well as Gout, we’ve got another guy who just went under 20 seconds too, and easily broke Norman’s record too.

There’s also Lachlan Kennedy who has beat Gout semi-regularly in the 200m, though he pulled out of this event after racing two back-to-back 9.96 100 metre races.

Kennedy, Gout and Hull. Athletics Australia must be loving the attention to the sport. Hopefully kicks off a new generation.

People have been asking “why doesn’t Lachlan Kennedy get the same amount of coverage when he’s beating him” etc. These sort of results are why.

Gouts our best hope for a 200m medal since Peter Norman.

Nobody is touching Usains 100m record but if Gout can keep developing, getting stronger the 200m record might be eventually within reach

Crazy thing is he’s got so much headroom – he’s young, his starts and acceleration phase aren’t that great and his body is still developing. As long as he adds strength/power carefully and manages to stay relatively injury free then there’s still more time on the table.

He’s also just one of a host of great track and field athletes Australia has at the moment. I can’t remember ever having a team this strong across so many different events.

  10. So Kennedy ran the other night he could’ve got gold at the last commonwealth games, now gout would’ve got bronze at the Paris Olympics. Man we’ve got some bright sparks for our runners

Whole race is fake. Top 3 running half a second faster than their PB. Even the guy who ran 20.3 today broke 21 seconds for the first time THREE WEEKS AGO!!! Rigggggeddddd

  12. “It is the first time Gout had run under 20s legally, after he achieved the feat last year with an illegal tailwind.”

How is wind illegal in running??!!
