it’s basically old people coming back here to die. can’t imagine a young couple moving here to earn 1/3rd and spend 70% of their salary on rent/a mortgage. poland is still very much eastern europe

I am very conflicted about the reality of moving to Poland. For retired people it might be a option if they have good savings and pensions earned outside Poland. They can get very good private care. Something local people living in Poland can hardly afford. Using Polish hospitals, and doctors thru the Polish medical free system there will be a huge downgrade in quality and access to care. Doctors in Poland are excellent but the system is not working as it should and seniors care is not a priority there. I live in the US, have good insurance and in spite of what is said in the media this country has outstanding preventive and emergency care. I was never declined first class care when needed, and it was provided immediately without waiting for months. My relatives in Poland are scheduled for surgery or tests and have been waiting in line for 1 year to have it done. How can this be ok for anyone?.
For the young family with kids it will only work if they are looking to change lifestyle to maybe more relaxed but with no vision to advance in life. It is true that Poland is very clean, there is almost free daycare for kids and playgrounds are planty. School can be challenging with staggered hrs. which makes drop off and pick ups very challenging at all different times of the day. Without having grandparents you will need to hire someone to do that or just not work. It will be ok
for someone who already has huge savings, possibly money to build a home or buy an apartment. Most jobs are in big cities where life is also expensive, and the small villages do not offer much for young people. Poland made big improvements in the past 20 years and for people that never left it is huge advancement. For those that left Poland to Western European countries, Canada or the US return will not offer much. People might return for sentimental reasons, new experiences, to be closer to the family but not for advancement. Many people who return usually after 2-3 years go back where they came from due to difficulties adapting. What you see when you visit on vacation is not what the day to day life is.
Them returning doesnt mean much really. Unless they were high income earner where they were, their return wont translate to anything much. They will be on the job market struggling likę everyone
Can confirm. Just came back from shithole called canada 2 weeks ago. So far so good,way better here.
Personally I’d like to spend a few years there. But who ever knows what will happen.

Every visit to Poland is a reminder why I moved away in the first place. If I had to summarize Poland in one word, then it would be “prowizorka”, many things look nice but if you look closer you see they just went the cheap way, literally and figuratively.
My cousin moved back to Poland last year. She left at 13yo, came back with family including 2 young children. She and her husband are very high earners, just finished building a house and have kids in a private school. She’s hoping to stay but her oldest (8) really wants to go back to the country he grew up in.
Would she love it as much if she didn’t have such a high socioeconomic status? Probably not.
If you have money, coming back to home country is great! You get to be back at home, and live well. Coming back to Poland while already struggling financially… probably not fun at all.
Yeah, salaries are worse in Poland, but the standard of living is much better than in a lot of western countries. I grew up being told how much better west eu is, it turns out everyone just meant money, which doesn’t mean affordability or simplicity of day to day life – It was always sugarcoated for some reason. I moved out few years ago and let me tell you, it’s not perfect anywhere. There are pros and cons, at the end of the day it all depends on what you value in life.
The weather hasn’t changed. Livable 3-4 months a year only.
I moved back to Poland after living in Norway for 15 years.
I was lost at first, but now I have no regrets. And I’m 35 so I didn’t just move here for retirement.
Only old people coming back 😂 all my polish friends here in the UK are going to move back within a few years, we’re sick to death of the total lack of safety and treason by the UK government. I’m 33 with three kids and me and my extended family are all coming later this year. UK if not the west is done.
I have got 18 months left abroad.
