The Hamas-run interior authorities in Gaza have been gradually resuming operations in recent months by establishing checkpoints and repairing some of its security headquarters in the enclave.

In response, the Israeli army targeted checkpoints and police vehicles in various parts of Gaza, resulting in deaths and injuries. Israel claimed these operations targeted armed elements or potential threats, despite a Gaza ceasefire agreement reached between Hamas and Israel, which went into effect in October 2025.
