Egypt has reaffirmed its commitment to continued engagement in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and to strengthening cooperation among its member states, Assistant Foreign Minister for Multilateral Affairs and International Security Ambassador Amr El Sherbini said on Sunday, April 12, 2026.

During a meeting with CICA Secretary General Kairat Sarybay at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, Sherbini stressed Egypt’s keenness to remain actively involved in the organization’s activities.

He highlighted the importance of sharing national expertise and exchanging best practices among member states.

El Sherbini also praised the sustained efforts of the secretary general to advance CICA’s institutional development and enhance its engagement with regional and international organizations.

He reviewed Egypt’s key contributions within the framework of its membership, describing CICA as an important platform for confidence-building measures and for supporting mediation efforts aimed at conflict resolution.

For his part, Sarybay commended Egypt’s active participation and engagement in CICA meetings and various bodies.

He noted that Egypt organized several virtual events under the CICA framework in 2025 and early this year, covering areas such as investment, agriculture, healthcare, and countering extremist ideology.

He expressed his aspiration to further strengthen cooperation with Egypt, highlighting its status as a founding member and its longstanding experience in confidence-building, mediation, and socio-economic development.

The meeting also reviewed ongoing preparations for the upcoming CICA summit, scheduled to be held in October in Baku, Azerbaijan, as well as progress toward transforming the conference into a full-fledged international organization. Sarybay underscored CICA’s importance as a forum for dialogue and cooperation among its 28 Asian member states.
