Hungary reminds me of Turkey, with all those countless flags lined up side by side behind the prime minister.

Hopefully the first of many changes to come under the new government.

If you’ve listened to the Hungarian state media news broadcast in recent years, for longer than 3 minutes, you know why.
They were fighting for their lives yesterday evening, when the results started to come in, because they completely disregarded the independent polls and have been feeding bullshit and propaganda to their viewers. I’ll never forget those moments when they couldn’t deny reality and facts any longer.

Creating a non-state media and free press in general will be interesting

Easy way to make them comply. He’s not prime minister yet. If the state media wants to save themselves they have a month to praise him daily or report on Orban’s corruption for once.

That’s a pretty concerning move…suspending state media sounds less like reform and more like control, depending on how it’s actually implemented.

Hungary might do the same thing we did back in 2023, meaning kicking out propaganda stooges from state TV. Unforfunately all those brainwashed people who watched it religiously just jumped to the next best option, whole PiS party-owned news station – Republika. They just couldn’t live without a constant supply of fearmongering and hating on Tusk.

Is he suspending fundings and allowing it to be funded privately or is he just plainly canceling the news broadcast?
If its the first, Trump did something similar last year, where he signed an executive order to cancel federal fundings for PBS and NPR due to being bias.

True free press that brings accountability to people in power is the basis. No country with a real democracy can work without that. That news broadcast was propaganda, that doesn’t work. Clean the slate and the state.

Great news, we wish the same to happen in germany.
Even today they are still scaring people about impending Ukrainian attacks from my taxes. At least one old person already committed suicide because she was afraid of war. They must stop immediately.

They should pay attention to who will finance them when they continue as a private network. Because they will.

Until nations have the balls to insist on a free press this will only be a partial solution.
Free that is from the corrupting influence of the oligarchs. For democracy to truely function. Then one way or another all news media must be paid for independently of both government and wealth. And that is a tall order, because who else will pay for it

Y’all should pick up the rights to Sesame Street and run it nonstop from the beginning until that channel gets figured out.

Bit clickbaity title. He said he will suspend it AND improve it’s quality before releasing again, which is, with all honesty, is very much needed.
Oh look, Reuters really loves clicks on their articles dont they?
“until unbiased news coverage can be ensured.”
