  1. It’s an ill-afforded luxury that harked back to the 1860s when the State created the post to deal with travellers seeking to migrate to Queensland.

It used to be the office for the authorised QLD government agent in London. It’s cool stuff. Basically when we were in our “economic boom” period and didn’t have access to the internet let alone high-speed international communication options, the state gov would tell the agent to advertise for things like tenders from construction companies (eg T[he Cross River Bridge was advertised in 1978](https://archive.org/stream/NewsUK1978UKEnglish/Oct%2014%201978%2C%20The%20Times%2C%20%2360432%2C%20UK%20%28en%29_djvu.txt)). Having someone local sped up the process and prevented unnecessary back and fourth trips that could take months.

As of 2015 it’s now a post office. Slightly less cool, but still looks nice.

Queensland House is an office for the Queensland Government in the UK. The main entrance is located on the Strand (as per signage).
Probably handles all trade and business enquiries.
