The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, received today in a meeting the Speaker of the Parliament of North Macedonia, Afrim Gashi.

The meeting focused on the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, the issues of Albanians in North Macedonia, their rights with a focus on the Albanian language, fair and adequate representation in institutions, and the need to unite the Albanian political factor when it comes to defending issues related to the protection of their rights.

For Begaj, “the law on adequate representation and the Ohrid Agreement are not for discussion, they are for implementation!”

Begaj requested the commitment of Parliament Speaker Gashi in resolving the requests of Law students to take the exam in the Albanian language.

“I hope that students who are protesting about taking the exam in Albanian will be allowed this right and that this mechanism will be regulated in a legal and fair manner,” said Begaj, as announced by the Albanian Presidency.

“Albanians are a state-forming factor in the Republic of North Macedonia. In a multiethnic state, coexistence and understanding between ethnicities are very important. The institutional guarantee with a binding legal framework of acquired rights and not the product of random balances is one more guarantee for the real advancement of the Republic of North Macedonia towards EU integration processes,” he emphasized.

The strengthening of the Albanian diaspora, which Begaj called “the strength and heart of the nation,” was also one of the topics discussed at the meeting.
