OSCEOLA COUNTY — Great Lakes Energy scheduled power shutoffs in several areas due to ongoing flooding and rising water levels.

The utility provider disconnected power at 10 a.m. April 15 in Osceola County. Affected areas include 9 Mile Road east of M-66, Trout Drive, Miller Drive and the Wildlife Shores area.

The shutoff was implemented to prevent serious electrical hazards including shock risk and fire, officials said. Any homes with water surrounding or entering the residence may also have power disconnected for safety reasons.

Residents were advised to charge all essential devices immediately and plan for the loss of refrigeration or medical equipment. Officials said generators should only be used outdoors and away from structures.

Utility providers said emergency crews will restore power as soon as it is safe to do so. Residents should be ready to leave if conditions worsen or access to the area becomes limited.
