I’m a regular user of the Keperra Bushland trails, particularly on the hill between Keperra and The Gap. It is a lovely hidden part of Brisbane, and the boys and I often see all sorts of wildlife out there.

While reviewing the DA for the proposed changes to accesses at “The Quarry”, I noticed a DA amendment for a subdivision that borders the Keperra Bushland.

It seems the owners (relatives of Clive Palmer btw) are seeking to an exemption to build outside of the “Building Location Envelope”, in areas identified for Bushfire Protection Zones, and Environment and Conservation Zones.

Without a lot of bushfire prevention activity in that area, it doesn’t seem logical that BCC could grant an exemption for this? Is there anything private citizens can do to protect these zones?

I was going to post to Facebook community groups, but my account has been locked out 😆 Probably for comments made about Victoria Park.

They are seeking to build on their private property. Changing the ‘building envelope’ is simply changing the position of where they build, within their property.

  2. The application is code assessable which means it isn’t publicly notifiable or open for comment by public. Any comment to BCC would not need to be considered formally.

If you review the submitted material, the applicant is seeing to amend the wording of the BCC conditions to allow for particular structures like swimming pool, water tank, and only of particular materials, in the bushfire zone. The amendments wouldnt allow them to extend houses or build granny flats in there.
