The Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (ECDI) announced in a press release on 11 April 2026 that it and Lockheed Martin had signed a contract for the procurement of three more High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) multiple rocket launchers (MRLs).

Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur said, “Additional HIMARS systems will ensure the deep-strike capability required by the Estonian Defence Forces [EDF] and NATO, significantly strengthening both our national defence capability and deterrence.”

The ECDI added that the agreement includes investment of approximately USD11 million in Estonia’s defence industry, which Pevkur expected to benefit from the financial support.

Janari Kasemets, the ECDI’s category manager for combat platforms, said that in addition to the procurement of rocket systems and ammunition, a HIMARS component maintenance capability provided by local companies would be established. He added, “The USD11 million investment in Estonia will be combined, at Lockheed Martin’s initiative, with investments in neighbouring countries such as Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Finland, in order to build broader regional expertise and ensure the availability of required services locally.”

    Asked by
    Janes
what Estonian companies would provide component maintenance, an ECDI spokesperson replied on 14 April, “We are currently in the negotiation phase.”

Estonia received its first six HIMARS on 30 April 2025, when they were airlifted by a Ukrainian Antonov An-124 transport aircraft to Ämari Air Base and handed over to the EDF. The ECDI spokesperson told
    Janes
that the six HIMARS already delivered are in service and conducted their first live firings in mid-2025. He expected the three additional HIMARS to be delivered by the end of 2027.
