Montana’s spring turkey season is officially open today for residents.

The season runs until May 31.

In the spring season only male wild turkeys can be harvested and hunters are limited to shotguns and archery equipment.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks regulations state turkeys can be taken with no larger than a ten-gauge shotgun or with a long recurve or compound bow.

Turkey licenses are available over the counter but hunters should always check their specific district rules before heading out.

For nonresidents hunting public land and privately owned lands that are a part of hunting access program, spring turkey opens ten days later on April 25.
