Priscilla Thornton got the shootout started for Spain Park with a goal, but Gabi Guillen converted hers to tie it at 1-1. The sides went back and forth from there, with Gianna Thornton and Laura Russell both scoring in the second round before Addison Bayne scored for the Jags in the third round.

Taylor Ford then stepped up and delivered the first save of the shootout to preserve a 3-2 lead going into the fourth round. However, Chelsea saved the next two Spain Park attempts and got goals from Adeline Keith and Maddie Hill to take a 4-3 lead.

Cadence Leemon scored for the Jags to tie up the shootout, and Ford delivered another big save to give her team a chance to win. That’s when freshman Libby Gray finished off the victory with a goal to win the shootout 5-4.

Spain Park improved to 6-8-3 overall and 3-2 in area play. The Jags will face Pelham on Friday, April 17 at 5 p.m. at Spain Park High School with a chance to make the playoffs with a win.

Chelsea dropped to 6-5-3 overall and 3-3 in area play. The Hornets can still clinch if Spain Park loses to Pelham because it holds a higher overall goal differential.

Chelsea will now travel to Huntsville to face the Grissom Tigers on Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. and the top-ranked James Clemens Jets on Friday, April 17 at 5 p.m.
