Combat antisemetism is necessary. Our Belgian Jewish population has nothing to do with what is happening in the Middle East, but feel threathened. They are always, for hundrends and hundreds of years, seen as a target when something goes wrong in the society/world. So I’m utterly disgusted by some reactions here! Time to read Anne Frank’s diary again!
Otherwise am I also disgusted by some policies by Israel, just like the new “yellow line” policies and allowing occupiers on the rightfully Palestinian grounds on the West Bank. But yeah, what can you do about it as “Little Belgium”? As long as the US backs this? What we can do is protecting put Jewish population and meanwhile try to comfort our Palestinian population as well.
We already host the highest number of Palestinian refugees.

There’s this whole campaign from Belgian Zionist organizations to push the idea that there’s this huge “antisemitism crisis”, and to then use the manufactured crisis to call for more measures to fight against antisemitism, but in reality, it’s all about shutting down anti-Zionist speech.
When you actually look at the data, antisemitism it’s not at the level they’re making it out to be, especially compared to other forms of racism.
Just look at what’s happening right now. After the foiled attack in Liège, you’ve got soldiers, not even just policemen, guarding synagogues and Jewish institutions. But back in January 2025, when [a far-right guy was planning an attack on a mosque in Molenbeek](https://www.rtbf.be/article/l-attentat-dejoue-avait-pour-cible-une-mosquee-de-molenbeek-11494419), you didn’t see soldiers deployed in front of mosques. So there’s clearly a Jewish exceptionalist double standard.
And the numbers back that up. [The Jonathas Institute poll](https://jonathas.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Institut-Jonathas-1st-survey-in-Belgium-on-Jews-antisemitism-and-the-war-in-Gaza.pdf) from 2024 says 33% of Belgians feel antipathy towards Muslims, versus only 14% towards Jews. And according to Unia, most antisemitism cases they deal with are online hate speech, only about 5% are actual discrimination. For other minorities, it’s more like 65–70%. So honestly, who’s facing the most real-life discrimination here? Who’s more in danger?
Then you’ve got all these calls for a “special envoy” on antisemitism. But let’s be real, this will just be another way to police criticism of Israel. You already see that at the EU level with the EU commission special envoy for antisemitism, Katharina von Schnurbein, a German Zionist who grew up in “[a pro-Jewish and pro-Israel family](https://www.timesofisrael.com/how-the-eu-antisemitism-warrior-became-a-defender-of-kosher-slaughter-circumcision/)”. She’s been pushing the IHRA definition of antisemitism, whose goal is to criminalize anti-zionist speech as antisemitic.
And look at who Bart De Wever was talking to. He met with groups like the JID, the CCOJB, and Michael Freilich, “the only Jewish Member of Parliament”. But these aren’t neutral actors.

All about fighting antisemitism, folks!
– The CCOJB also promotes things like Birthright trips, where young Belgian Jews get free trips to Israel framed as their “birthright”. And they openly say [they fully support the State of Israel](https://www.ccojb.be/communique/israel-2). At the same time, they claim to represent Jews in Belgium, which… raises some questions.
– And Freilich himself [describes himself](https://www.michaelfreilich.be/nieuws/we-moeten-de-strijd-tegen-antisemitisme-serieus-nemen) as a Jewish Flemish man and a supporter of Israel, so again, not exactly a neutral position.
Don’t fall for the narrative, it’s not about Jewish safety, it’s all about Israel, and these Belgian Zionist organizations are complicit in defending genocide.
