We have just returned home and it appears as though a sticker from an airline ticket has half-torn off my child's face. The passport is brand new so it's a bit frustrating
No. I’d claim the replacement on travel insurance if possible.

that’s a hard NO here

That’s not the main photo page is it? It may be ok, but I’d definitely ask the passport office
Pixelatorxl on
Unfortunately no. But just to be sure you can email the passport office an image of the passport with this damage and they can advise.
But I’d claim travel insurance if you do need a replacement

I’m going to say no. But it will be in your best interest to seek the opinion of passport office.

That looks like the Observations page rather than the main one where the actual photo, sig and details are. So its “probably not useable” but the real answer is call the Passport Office hotline and check with them.

That would get withdrawn if spotted by a border officer and absolutely not accepted overseas.
As others say replace it on insurance

Unless your child is also missing half his face then yes, this is damaged beyond use.

I would definitely not risk getting denied boarding or getting denied entry overseas and losing a tonne of money on flight rescheduling (or potentially losing a whole trip if you cannot even get rebooked on time). Get it replaced.

Yes technically speaking any damage to including unauthorized stamps is enough to void a passport

Unbelievable quality from the world’s most expensive passport ✅

Nobody here knows. Even if the passport office says it’s good, you never know what the immigration officer at the destination will say. Traveling with kids is stressful enough, just replace it for peace of mind.

I tumble dried my passport about 20 years ago, it didn’t look this bad, and I had to replace it… I am pretty sure this is not going to work!
Also, why I hate giving people, especially airlines & rent a cop security guys my passport – staples, stickers, pen – you name it they do it.

Yes. No.

No, I’m sure it’s totally fine to use a passport where half the photo of the person’s face has been ripped off. No one will care about that at all. On an unrelated note, did you ever graduate primary school?

Damn australian passports have really gone down the toilet. It’s a scam how much they cost
sephg on
So long as the face looks ok on the passport page I assume it’ll be ok. Printing the face on every page is mostly to stop people stealing pages from one passport to forge another passport.
But of course, check with the passport office if you’re worried about it.

I had a conversation with the passports office after my family’s ones all went banana after arriving and they told me if the passport fails (as in poor build quality issues rendering it unusable) within the first two years they’d replace it free of charge assuming it’s a quality issue which I’d argue this is.
t_25_t on
On a seperate note, I would be majorly pissed if someone stuck that on my passport and in the process damaging it.
WolfeCreation on
Is the image ripped off or is there part of the sticker bit left over that could be scratched off?

Almost any damage to a passport is considered sufficient to render it unusable. I always keep mine in a ziplock bag.
KiwiJay83 on
It will be denied next time since there is obvious damage. Call up the travel insurance company to ask if it would be covered.
Australian passports are some of the most expensive in the world so hopefully you get something back.

Depends … did the airline also remove half of your kids actual face so the pictures still match?

If it still curls when it’s closed, then it’s all good. That’s how you know if it’s a real Australian Passport.
