even if the couple put gas in and the recipt said gas, anyone look at the fueling station incase they have diesel in the gas tanks?

    edit. [https://www.ctvnews.ca/edmonton/article/50-water-50-fuel-found-in-tanks-of-vehicles-that-filled-up-at-edmonton-gas-station/](https://www.ctvnews.ca/edmonton/article/50-water-50-fuel-found-in-tanks-of-vehicles-that-filled-up-at-edmonton-gas-station/)

maybe there is more of an issue on multiple sides. Esso having water issues, enterprise assuming diesel went in. Both are in edmonton, both involve esso stations, both would have a no start situation.

As someone who works in rental insurance, specifically insurance fraud, I wouldn’t trust the rental agencies.

I deal with so many fraudulent damage claims. It’s usually not the giants like enterprise though.

Never rent from rental places that only have a couple locations. There is one very litigious agency that operates in Mississauga and Calgary. Super fraudy. Montreal is also a hotspot for fraud, especially agencies in a very specific neighbourhood.

  3. Sounds pretty cut and dry, especially given the timeline to determine fault..

I’ve seen a noticeable increase in large corporations trying to hand damages to customers or insurance, we’re going to see a lot more of this as the economy slows.

  4. We had a problem with Avis. One week rental in winter. Avis inspected the car after we returned it with no issues. Three months later they said it had thousands of dollars of front end damage. They hounded us for over a year could not produce photographic evidence of damage just a body shop quotation. We asked for the rental history of the vehicle to prove that it had been rented out after our return, they refused. They even sent it to a collections agency to get the money out of us. We got a lawyer to write a couple of letters asking for evidence that we were responsible, that’s when they stopped harassing us.

I wonder if they can tell if you didn’t put 91% octane in a rental that required it?

From a purely “repair cost” perspective, generally diesel in a gas engine isn’t that big of a deal. Sure it won’t run but that is the extent of the “damage”. Drain the fuel tank, change the fuel filters if you are being really frisky and it’s fine. Perhaps a couple thousand $ at most. I have seen it several times with mis-labeled jerry cans and generally if you can get enough gas in to dilute the diesel the vehicle will still run, it just smokes for awhile until you burn though all the mixed fuel in the tank.

Gasoline in a Diesel engine is another matter – that shit detonates and does all kinds of mechanical damage to the engine.

  7. Go ahead and sue them for frivolous claims.
It is possible, an insider did that to get more repairs for shops that contract with enterprise in that area.
