  1. Trump’s Voter Suppression Act was never likely to pass in the first place, and Trump was possibly the only one who didn’t understand that.

…Trump’s probably going to go on a rant online in a few hours about this, isn’t he?

  2. They’ll keep trying until it passes or they get voted out. November can’t come soon enough

Its really a sad comment on our times that our “victories” are at best temporary holding actions.

I think very soon the billionaire class is just going to outlaw voting oh not at first it will be subtle like it always is but the train will suddenly gain steam.

  4. It didn’t said it failed to vote, did more digging. So, it failed to advance due to Thune on not advancing it. It will still be advance once Thune gets a phone call from Trump.

In the last 72 hours, Trump’s voter intimidation bill failed in part because of Senate Leader Thune, who is facing calls to resign by fellow Republican voices, the Iranians have demonstrated he lies about their negotiations, the tariff refunds are coming out, and stories are coming out about him being sidelined from military meetings.

HE may think of himself as God, King, or whatever else he does, but he IS NOT.

The guy is a fucking loser.

He will lose his seat in the White House.

    Impeach. Remove. Convict. Confine.

  6. This is implying that they voted on it and it failed to pass.

There was never a vote because Thune realizes that it’s dead in the water and they’re not going to remove the filibuster.

The reason it has failed, I think, is that some of the Republicans realized that this would disenfranchise a significant portion of their own voters. The only way this bill would work in their favor would be if they could ensure that it is only enforced in areas that tend to vote Democrat.

Due to rightwing disinformation surrounding this bill, a lot of the MAGA people seem to think that the ID required is a drivers license, rather than a passport or birth certificate. They’re going to keep pushing for this bill because, they don’t understand that it might keep them from voting.

  8. Fuck all of this administration’s deceptively named bad faith “ideas”. Although I do think that bill would have hurt MAGA a lot – not many of them have passports.

  9. This was the one where women who took their husbands last name would have to jump through hoops to vote still? I think it was aimed at trans people but, like with everything, didn’t think it through

  10. Great, now to stop all the data harvesting bills out there under the guise of “age verification”

“Millions of Voters Retain Their Right to Vote for Now” is something I never thought I would see. ‘for now’.

  12. ThistleroseTea on

It’s hard to find any other news source discussing it.

Apparently the actual news is, that there is no news.

Thune is declining to let it come to a vote. But tomorrow he could change his mind. Hence “for now.”

    Nothing has changed since yesterday.

Refusing to bring it to the floor is not the same as a vote against it…

    It’s still out there

Some light in this bleak tunnel id hope more gop leaders will realize they can have a spine and say no

  15. Brace yourself. Executive orders and state level laws incoming.

Trump’s admin is like a 4 year old that got told no. They just reword it and try again until they get bored.

  16. Ok_Macaroon7900 on

I can’t find anything about this other than this frankly very vague splc article and a random facebook post claiming John Thune chose not to bring it to the floor today. The most recent articles on the subject are all from at least three weeks ago.

Anyone know what they’re talking about? Because it looks like it wasn’t voted on and I don’t trust a random facebook post to be 100% accurate. The splc didn’t exactly specify. What the hell changed? What is even meant by it failing in the senate if it was never voted on?

With the world on the verge of economic catastrophe, this Congress’ republicans have been concerned for the past 16 months with restricting voting and protecting pedophiles.

Really makes you think where conservative priorities lie…

  18. The fact it got as far as it did is alarming enough that this shouldn’t be over yet imo. It’s not fixed until we’ve torn out every systematic failure and politician who facilitated this. It’s a step towards victory but not victory yet

they have people up against the ropes.

they’ve gone from demanding improvements to being satisfied with slow erosion of rights. disgusting.

  20. External_Brother1246 on

    He’ll to the yes!

Take that you voter suppression a-holes.

Now we are going to vote you out!

  21. Anyone have the list of Senators who voted for/against? I’m having trouble finding it through Google.

Edit: Nevermind apparently it was filibuster nonsense and didn’t reach a vote

  22. PinkSlimeIsPeople on

We Dems really need to start using better framing. Stop using right wing acronyms and phraseology. It’s not ‘the SAVE Act’, it’s the voter suppression act. Just sayin’

  23. PaleCommission150 on

Vote Blue no matter who in November. It is literally the only way to prevent our ability to vote from getting revoked. Even those who do not traditionally vote Democrat should in this case…this is a protective measure for the conservatives too. One day the SAVE act may come for their local group and try to take their voting rights away as a result of some unforeseen circumstances that currently cannot be considered.
