After a couple of quiet days in the transfer portal for Kansas State and head coach Casey Alexander, another new Wildcat is headed to Manhattan.

Miami forward Timotej Malovec, originally from Slovakia, committed to the Wildcats after a season in South Beach, according to reports Tuesday afternoon.

Malovec appeared in 33 games with the Hurricanes, averaging 4.2 points and 1.3 rebounds. The 6-foot-8, 214-pound sophomore shot 35% from the floor and 33.3% from 3, hitting 37-of-111 attempts, including six games with three or more 3s made.

He was also 71.4% from the free-throw line and had 29 assists, seven blocks and 10 steals.

He scored a season-high 16 points in Miami’s win over Southern Miss on Dec. 6

Prior to his time at Miami, Malovec played for Mega Superbet in ABA League First Division from 2023-25. In 2024-25, he averaged 6.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, shooting 36.5 percent from 3-point range

He also represented Slovakia at the senior and youth national team level. He competed in 2025 FIBA EuroBasket qualifiers — averaging 8.7 points, 6 rebounds and 1.3 assists across six games.

The 23-year-old will have two years of eligibility remaining.

K-State’s roster for 2026-27 stands at 12 players. Freshmen Jaylen Alexander and Devin Hutcherson pair join transfers Malovec, Montana Wheeler (Bradley), Isaiah Abraham (Georgetown), Matt Gilhool (LSU), JT Rock (New Mexico), Jaden Schutt (Virginia Tech), Brock Vice (Murray State), Brandon Rechsteiner (Colorado State) and Dezdrick Lindsay (Oregon).

Sophomore Andrej Kostic will be the lone holdover from the Jerome Tang era.

Nine Wildcats under Tang entered the portal, including P.J. Haggerty (Texas A&M commit), Taj Manning (Iowa State), Abdi Bashir Jr., Elias Rapieque, Stephen Osei, Dorin Buca, Mobi Ikegwuruka, David Castillo and Exavier Wilson (Akron).

A Manhattan Mercury estimate puts the payroll budget for the men’s basketball team at $3.8 million, based on K-State’s statements that the program will receive 18% of the athletics department’s revenue-sharing total of $21.3 million for the 2026-27 athletic year.

The NCAA Division I men’s basketball transfer portal officially opened after the national championship game and will close on Tuesday, lasting 15 days.
