TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Lithuanian government officials say the country will sign an economic cooperation action plan with Taiwan in June, reports said Wednesday.
The two countries have developed closer relations since Taiwan opened an office in Vilnius in 2021 under the name “Taiwanese Representative Office” over opposition from China. Beijing downgraded its relations with Lithuania and implemented trade sanctions as a result.
The plans for an economic action plan formed a topic of discussion at a recent meeting between Taiwan Envoy Constance Wang (王雪虹) and Lithuanian Deputy Foreign Minister Vidmantas Verbickas, per CNA.
The agreement covers semiconductors, the defense industry, technology, science and innovation, finance, agriculture, and cooperation projects in Ukraine, according to a report by Lithuania’s LRT. Both sides are expected to finalize the accord in May before signing it in early June.
