As a Slovak, finally something to be proud of. But if chat control gets approved, our rating will collapse.

  2. This is funny. I come from Brazil, where the internet is basically a Wild West, and now live in Germany, a country where you can be handsomely fined for torrenting, yet the number in Brazil is much lower than Germany.
I use a VPN in Germany everyday, something I never had to do in Brazil.

I don’t really think this is accurate.

Most south asian countries have more freedom than what’s displayed on the map, ig it’s based on laws, otherwise freedom is there similar to brazil

  4. India is wild west. You can access anything if you put your mind to it. VPN and sailing the high seas is pretty normal. Only issue comes are Internet shutdowns in regions of violence.

Brazil at 52 is a complete joke, there’s absolutely nothing here that would put us so low. There’s no censorship, torrents are ok, VPNs, no blocking to any social medias, everything.

In my opinion, we have too much freedom. There’s a lot of online content that should be censored and isn’t, including hate crimes, that you can see everywhere.

I call bullshit on this “internet freedom index”.

  6. Free? Come on…Wake up!

Global internet freedom has declined for over a decade. The internet has become “balkanized” into national segments, with increased monitoring and manipulation of information, even in democratic countries.

Unlike the early 2000s, modern users are constantly tracked, and their data is used to build profiles, leading to a loss of privacy.

The web is no longer a collection of independent sites but is dominated by 3-4 major platforms.

Content restriction has moved from sporadic to systematic, with governments actively blocking websites and social media during protests or elections.

  7. Idk how Russia manages to get 4 points, not mentioning the ability to pirate/bypass almost everything

I’m guessing the low score for South Korea has a lot to do with anti-bullying and anti-defamation laws. I don’t see how else it would be so low. There might be things I’m not aware of though.

I think freedom of internet will fall becouse freedom of life mean strong influence from foreign(with least internet freedom) and radical or/and anti-social groups in web.

  10. Not accurate at all, China bans ALL non-domestic social media websites and applications, while Russia can still access some.

Chinese Internet is basically LAN with a few exceptions.

The worse cases compare with Chinese Internet is Iran Internet during its full block and North Korea.

  11. Quantitative scores on stuff like this are really useless.

I very much oppose the blanket age verification laws coming up in Europe, but that seems to cause an equal reduction in score as nations which limit political discussion. Those two are not the same magnitude of limitation.

Definitely not accurate. For one you need an ID in Australia to access porn now so how can it be on par with the US? Also pretty sure European countries will get you in trouble for tormenting with fines etc. Developing countries have zero laws for Internet use in that sense. Also India has made the Internet really cheap and accessible with 5G and low cost smartphones. This is just a few of the issues with this map.

  13. ah claro, nos EUA a internet é livre? KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK(KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

I was a little surprised that Mongolia and Namibia are more liberal than the surrounding countries.

  15. You know this is inaccurate when you see that Spain has a decent amount of freedom. Quick reminder that La Liga breaks half of Spain’s internet when a soccer match is going on to avoid piracy and is now pressing for VPNs to be regulated. Absolute madness!

  16. RandomKazakhGuy on

I’m half Kazakh and half Korean. Korean internet is way more free than Kazakh. BS map

I see the same number but different colours (eg France and Canada). AI hallucination?

  18. Germany at 84? It’s wayyyy lower, people get their homes searched on the regular because they insulted Politicians online.

  19. Slow_Spray5697 on

So 92 it’s the highest, so basically:

    Norway
    Finland
    Belgium
    Denmark
    Iceland
    Slovakia
    Costa Rica
    New Zealand

  20. 84 in the US? the country where you gotta give your goverment all your data to watch some tiddies? seems suspiciously high my man
