Nigeria is notorious for its unreliable population statistics so take that with a grain of salt. In any way, birth rates in many African countries including Nigeria are plummeting so don’t expect this to stay for long.
In my country Algeria, just after independence, we ha a fertilty rate of like 6-7, this was due to improved health care situation. But we also introduced mandatory 12 years of schooling for everyone, so women stopped getting married earlier, we had a massive migration from ural area to urban ones, and women entered the work force massively. Now the fertility rate is 2.5-3.
If the same factors, mandatory schooling and urbanistion happen. The fertility rate should drop to sustainable levels. Otherwise it means the health care system improved enough to reduce infantile mortality while the other sectors are lacking behind.
