Do wineries already have a lot of insights on what consumers want but aren’t exploring that data? What are consumers actually looking for at the store? And how ready are Wine Country officials to handle vintners requests to hold tasting events in their vineyards under a new law? These are some of the questions set to be tackled at North Bay Business Journal’s 26th Wine Industry Conference.

Here are highlights from the event, kicking off at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, at Oxford Suites in Rohnert Park:

    • Keynote: Cathy Huyghe, CEO and co-founder of wine big data analysis firm Enolytics, “Wine Data Superheroes: A Biography, from Idea to AI and Beyond.”
    • Panel discussion: Same law. Different energy. Napa vs. Sonoma counties on AB 720 — and what it means moving forward. Panelists: Scott Orr, director of Permit Sonoma, and Brian Bordano, director of Napa County Department of Planning, Building and Environmental Services.
    • Panel discussion: What do consumers want? Wine industry trends from a buyer’s perspective. Panelists: Josh Kirchhoff, wine and liquor coordinator for Oliver’s Market, and Kris Anderson, wine buyer for Willibees.
