Hello Brisbane!
I am a UQ student conducting research on termite mounds (more specifically biological residues in termite clay) and I was wondering if anyone here has termite mounds (such as the ones pictured) on their property that I could take some samples from?
It isn't a long process, only a few minutes, and requires minimal effort from you. However it would be a huge huge help to me and my studies.
I am flexible around your availability and can even do it at night.
Please let me know in the comments or send me a DM if you're able to help at all. I am truly desperate for termites.
Thank you!!!

Are you St Lucia or Gatton? There’s heaps in the Lockyer Valley
The forest between green road and park ridge Rd in Logan has a whole heap of them. Good walking tracks around that space too (well illegal 4wd tacks but…)
Daisy Hill mountain bike trails and near the koala sanctuary. Heaps of public walking trails in that area. Saw a few yesterday.
Ask orienteering qld. They have maps literally with termite mounds marked. You can ask for regions that you can get to.
Fun fact: old homestead builders in the 1800s would use the termite dirt to make bricks that were baked and then used as floor tiles inside the homestead. The termite saliva in the dirt allowed the bricks to be polished like a stone, so the floor did not create dust as it was walked upon or swept. I have seen such examples in old homesteads up in the Atherton Tablelands. I have also seen termite mounds used to fill in potholes in Zambia that worked and held up surprisingly well.
Good luck with your research. It sounds like an interesting project.
If you can take from public space, Chermside hills reserve has ground and tree nests.Â
Try in the road side of west’s road, Patrick Estate. Between Patrick Estate Rd and Coominya Connection Rd, Coominya QLD 4311. Â
Fun fact, on the eastern end of Wests road, southern side, you can see Clive Palmer’s decommissioned military tanks.Â
There’s some in Raven Street Reserve (Downfall Creek) in Chermside
