      Imagine being such a sensible house of cards that a foreign journalist coming into your country to literary just read the newspaper somehow de-legitimates you. Is this the image of strength Putin is famous for projecting ?

      Rosenberg is probably in a unique position. For all the failings and difficulties of the BBC I do think that position grants him a level of safety that no one else really has, yes the Putin Regime might kick him out but I think they’d be extremely reluctant to treat him the same as the Washington Post journalists and short of missles starting to fly to London I don’t think he’d ever be completely disappeared.

      It’s not something to be blaise about, and the concerns him and the BBC have shown are well founded, but he does seem to make the most of his privileged position and probably does the best reporting of anyone inside Russia.

      He is as safe as one can be because he is the main image that Russia uses when saying “we allow hostile, biased, propagandist adversary journalists in our country to freely ask questions, while they dont allow ours so who is doing censorship? Who is actually free?”

      Russian govt needs him to stay

      Wildly he’s the exact same guy who goes semi-viral each year for uploading a video of him playing all that year’s Eurovision songs on his piano.

      Nice piece about a great journalist. 

      Each week a mod here shares his review of the Russian press (much appreciated), and it’s genuinely well done: if you read Russian papers closely, Russians ought to know how dire their country’s situation is.

       The journalist’s art is sharpening the focus so everything becomes clear.

       My guess is they leave him alone in Russia because Putin respects him as a strong individual

      Lookup the videos he put out of his visits and chats “Valentina’s Kiosk”. He would visit each day to pick up Russian newspapers and to talk with the owner. He made a number of videos about his conversations with her that went up on YouTube. This made an excellent grounding for his other reporting as it was about an ordinary Russian.
