The European Union’s mutual assistance clause is unambiguous, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday during a visit to Greece.
Macron, speaking at a news conference with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, told reporters: “On article 42, paragraph seven … we know that for us, it is clear and there is no room for interpretation or ambiguity, if I may say so, on this clause.”
EU leaders have asked officials to prepare a blueprint for how the bloc’s previously obscure mutual assistance clause would work, amid doubts over US commitment to the NATO military alliance. [Reuters]
