After a hard day at work, sometimes you just want to go out with your mates, watch some football and eat some bad food.

Well, that’s what Mark Allen did last Saturday after he suffered a tough opening first session, trailing 5-3 against Zhang Anda.

It did the trick as Allen, who had not made a 50 break in session one, looked a new player on Sunday, winning seven of eight frames to seal a 10-6 win, including three centuries.

“I was so frustrated – I’ve been doing things so well on the practice table, being in the gym and eating well,” said Allen afterwards. “I just went out and had a few drinks and a burger.

“I thought, ‘I can’t play any worse’. I was so down on myself, I didn’t want to talk to anyone. So I went out, had a few bets and watched the football with my mates. A bit of bad food, slept really well and played much better.”
