A second round of peace talks between the United States and Iran, expected to take place in Pakistan this weekend, has effectively collapsed after Washington canceled its delegation’s visit.

U.S. President Donald Trump said Saturday that he canceled a planned trip by U.S. officials to Pakistan for discussions on the Iran war.

The announcement came after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who had been staying in Islamabad, was confirmed to have left the country earlier in the day.

A day earlier, the White House had said the U.S. delegation would depart for Pakistan on Saturday morning for face‑to‑face talks with Iran, raising expectations for a resumption of negotiations.

With the trip now canceled, a second round of in‑person talks that had been anticipated for this weekend appears unlikely.

Trump has continued to signal openness to dialogue even as he increases pressure on Iran, saying the United States “holds all the cards” and that if Iran wants to talk, “all they have to do is call.”
