Riga will expand tracked armoured support without compromising national defense. Officials say details remain limited but signal steady commitment to Ukraine’s battlefield resilience.

Latvia’s Minister of Defence, Andris Spruds, announced that his country would deliver to Ukraine additional CVR (T) tracked combat armoured vehicles.

Andris Spruds confirmed on X Latvia’s intention to continue supporting Ukraine with these armoured vehicles.

Latvia will provide Ukraine with additional CVR (T) tracked combat armoured vehicles. We support Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression and will continue to do so for as long as it is needed.

    – Andris Spruds

Spruds did not specify the exact number of armoured carriers, but stressed that the deliveries would not affect Latvia’s defence capabilities or their operational needs.

In 2025, Latvia’s military aid to Ukraine amounted to about 0.3% of the country’s GDP, and for 2026 the planned level of support is about 0.25% of GDP.

The Government’s Position and Next Steps

Foreign Minister Baiba Braže stated on X that Latvia will continue to ensure that Ukraine is strong on the battlefield, as this brings peace closer at the negotiating table.

Latvia will continue to ensure that ‘Ukraine is strong on the battlefield, as this will bring peace at the negotiating table’.

    – Baiba Braže

The government has decided to transfer free of charge another type of movable state property to Ukraine; details remain confidential, but this is part of Latvia’s support.

In 2024 Latvia had already delivered to Ukraine nine CVR (T) armoured vehicles, previously purchased in the United Kingdom. The government also confirmed a support package for Ukraine totaling €6.8 million, which is part of a broader aid package.

Thus Latvia continues to bolster its defense and diplomatic support package for Ukraine, strengthening its defensive capabilities and pursuing peace at the negotiating table.
