BGSU women’s basketball has made an international signing, acquiring 6-foot-3 power forward Aurélie Vanderstraeten from Belgium.

Vanderstraeten has played the past two seasons for Koninklijk Basket Team ION Waregem DSE in the Belgian Top Division Women. This past season, she averaged 9.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists as a part of the starting unit. She also registered seven double-doubles over the course of the season.

For her international experience, Vanderstraeten played in the FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship in Turkey. In addition, Vanderstraeten has also participated in the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket at the U16 and U18 levels.

“With great experience internationally, her impact should be immediate,” said head coach Fred Chmiel. Vanderstraeten is the first signing the Falcons have made this offseason.

Falcon Media Sports Network will continue to provide offseason updates of the program on bgfalconmedia.com.
