Starlink is moving forward with plans to establish Greece as its official satellite hub for the Balkans, with the project in Preveza entering the next phase following key approvals.

The Elon Musk-backed company has already secured environmental clearance from regional authorities and is now advancing discussions with Greece’s telecom regulator over spectrum and licensing requirements.

The project, known as “Starlink Gateway Preveza,” will be developed in the Preveza Business Park, positioning the region as a strategic digital gateway for southeastern Europe.

Strategic boost for Greece and the Balkans

The facility is expected to significantly enhance broadband access across the Balkans, delivering faster and more reliable satellite internet to underserved and remote areas.

Industry observers say the investment strengthens Greece’s role as a regional technology and infrastructure hub, while supporting sectors such as shipping, tourism, education and healthcare.

The move aligns with the broader expansion strategy of SpaceX, which continues to scale its global satellite network to meet growing demand for high-speed connectivity.

    What the project includes

Plans for the Preveza site outline a modern satellite ground station featuring:

    • Around 40 advanced satellite dishes
    • Antenna arrays housed in protective radomes
    • Supporting mechanical infrastructure
    • Secure perimeter fencing

The installation will operate remotely, with on-site presence limited to maintenance when required.

    A step closer to launch

With environmental approvals in place, the project now moves toward final licensing and construction phases. Once operational, the Preveza hub is expected to serve millions across the region, reinforcing Greece’s position in the evolving global digital infrastructure network.
