Israel secretly deployed its Iron Beam laser defense system to the UAE during a conflict with Iran. This marks the first major defense collaboration between the two nations since normalizing ties in 2020, with the system reportedly used to intercept Iranian drones like Shaheds from up to 20 km away.

Israel defending an Arab Muslim country from another Muslim country, I never thought I will see something like that happening, but now it actually seems to be more normal in the near future

Title is wrong. Iron beam is only effective against drones and short range rockets. Not missiles.

As Ukraine has shown, drone waves can be managed (for now) in very cheap ways, from machine guns mounted on trucks to interceptor drones. However, the UAE has little strategic depth so a point defense system like the iron beam can be useful.

There was no short range rockets used here.

The real threat has been Iran’s waves of ballistic missiles. The iron dome/beam is useless against that and most systems designed to counter missiles get quickly overwhelmed. There is still no good answer to defending against waves of missiles.
