A 67-year-old Bulgarian caregiver assaulted an 82-year-old woman in Chios in this case, as video footage captured the abuse inside the victim’s home.

The elderly woman’s family sought full-time care due to her deteriorating health and hired the Bulgarian caregiver following recommendations. However, the woman’s condition rapidly worsened, raising alarm among relatives.

The 82-year-old slept up to 20 hours a day, prompting fears that she had suffered a serious medical episode. Family members began to suspect that someone had administered medication without their consent.

In response, relatives installed a hidden camera inside the home on 30 April, during the caregiver’s day off. Within 24 hours, the footage confirmed their worst fears.

The video captured the Bulgarian caregiver repeatedly hitting the defenceless elderly woman for approximately ten minutes while speaking on the phone, according to the complaint.

After reviewing the footage, the family immediately contacted police, who proceeded with the arrest of the suspect.

Authorities conducted a forensic medical examination, which confirmed signs of abuse and reinforced both the complaint and the video evidence.

In this case, the Bulgarian woman received a one-year prison sentence with a three-year suspension and was released.
