Okay but what’s that going to do though as no one who has had one beer is going to get pulled over.

Would 1 beer with food even show up on a breathalyser

Note, and it is in the article, Scotland has already been cut to this level of 50mg

Going for a pub lunch with 2 beers is reasonable, I don’t feel like I’m missing out and can still enjoy myself and don’t want to push it. But in countries with lower limits it’s pretty normal and socially acceptable for people to have 3 or 4 drinks and drive home. It’s not the limit that needs to be strict it’s the enforcement of it. We have some of the safest roads in the world, so not sure why this is an issue.

It’s perfectly reasonable to set a limit at 0. What’s the point in leaving any uncertainty.

2 beers with food is a huge gulf away from being drunk for most people.

Being drunk might be a contributing factor to some crashes, but I’d be willing to bet that driving like an adolescent twat was the main issue.

Some assholes have to mess things up for everyone.

A limit of 0 would be a strong deterrent but we live in an alcoholic culture so people could feel like their freedom is being taken away

Every golf club in the country got people knocking back multiple beers then driving home

Can’t see people ever sticking to a small beer, people just do not order that

Or how about just 0 that way there is no debate on if someone has had too much as a single drink / drop of alcohol will be over the limit.

I wouldn’t object to having a slightly lower limit, as recommended. Ditto for having commercial and new drivers to have lower limits.

    10. Make it lower sure but make sure there is actually public transport options or people will just ignore it.

    11. Nobody should be actively drinking any amount of alcohol before driving. The limit should be set as low as possible to enforce that while avoiding false positives for mouthwash and blah blah blah (which I think is an [overblown concern](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8254857/) being chucked about by people who want to drink and drive).

I’m always a zero alcohol if I’m driving kind of person.

      It’s not hard

    13. If you can fail a test for cannabis up to 24-48 hours after smoking, then an adjustment to lower the limit for alcohol should be made. You shouldn’t be able to ban someone from driving for smoking a joint the night before if you’re not going to ban someone for having a pint the night before. You’re arguably far less impaired for driving over the legal limit for cannabis than you are for alcohol.

    14. The message being pushed should be to abstain if you are driving. Yes if you just have one glass you can drive safely. But it’s never just one glass is it. Therefore the general message should be if you’re driving don’t partake.
